FALL CROPS PLANTED AT NOT ENOUGH ACRES FARM – Jeff Deck always has an impressive range of tip-top produce at the farmers’ markets, and the veggies he grows on his small Dennis farm are featured at area restaurants like Blue Moon Bistro. What’s going in the ground now for the fall harvest? The list is long: broccoli raab, broccoli, Napa cabbage, radishes, spinach lettuces, arugula, hardy greens, beets and carrots. You can find Not Enough Acres Farm’s produce at the Harwich and Mid-Cape Farmers’ Markets.

TURKEYS, CHICKENS & TOMATOES – Miss Scarlett’s Blue Ribbon Farm in Yarmouth Port has American Heritage turkeys available for order for Thanksgiving at $4.00/lb.; Rock Cornish X meat chickens available monthly ($3.50/lb, fresh, not frozen); and too many varieties of tomatoes to mention! Her tomatoes, squash and chickens are all on the menu at Pain D’Avignon’s Café in Hyannis. JUST A FEW WEEKS UNTIL THE CLASH – CAPE LAND AND SEA HARVEST – There will be tastings, tours and hands-on events all weekend long, September 24-26, all focused on the bounty of Cape Cod’s soils and waters and the talented and hardworking people who make it happen. There will be events hosted by more than a dozen BFBL Cape Cod members, and a giant farmers’ market on Sunday from 10:00-2:00 on the Village Green on Main Street in Hyannis. PEACHES, APPLES AND CAPE CORN - Right now Crow Farm in Sandwich has a wide array of their own greens, beets, carrots, cukes, squash, peppers, and beans, as well as apples and peaches! Corn is available, but the harvest will be waning in the coming weeks, so get it while you can. Crow Farm is a fourth-generation farm growing vegetables, tree fruit and bedding plants. WEEKLY FARM DINNERSCoonamessett Farm hosts their popular Jamaican Buffet (Wednesdays) and Vegetarian Buffet and BBQ Pulled Pork Grill (Fridays starting 6/25) at their farm in East Falmouth. Many of the ingredients come from a stone’s throw away. Visit www.coonamessettfarm.com for details.

Sea Chantey Buffet and Oyster Fest at Coonamessett Farm - 9/4 - East Falmouth
Saturday 5:00 - 8:00, Coonamessett Farm, 277 Hatchville Road
A very special culinary experience awaits participants on Saturday, September 4th, 2010, as Coonamessett Farm hosts a Sea Chantey Buffet and Oyster Fest. The authentic menu will include original sea-faring recipes such as lobscouse, solomogundy, plum duff, ship's biscuit, bashed neeps, and chowder. There will also be loin of pork with wine sauce as well as roast pollo on the grill. Each ticket includes a coupon for two freshly shucked oysters provided by the Falmouth Oyster Cooperative, harvested from the local waters of Buzzards Bay. Music will be provided by the Rum-Soaked Crooks, singing old (and uncensored!) sea chanteys. Attendees are encouraged to come in sea-faring costume. Attendance will be limited to 200 people, and reservations are necessary. Advance tickets (purchased prior to September 1st) are $30 per adult, including tax and gratuity; $20 for children ages 5 through 11; children under age 5 are free, but parents should note that the music will be unabridged! Tickets purchased after September 1st will be priced at $40 per adult. Reservations may be made by email (farm@coonamessett.net) or phone (508-563-2560), but tickets must be purchased at the farm by September 1st to guarantee advance pricing. Massachusetts Raw Milk Dairy Days – 9/11-9/12 – Westport, Foxboro & Statewide
Ten dairies in Massachusetts will hold open houses on September 11-12 to showcase the farms that provide safe, healthy raw milk to thousands of customers. Visitors to the farms will be treated to tours, milking demonstrations, and lessons on proper management of healthy dairy animals. Farms closest to the Cape include Lyons Brook Farm in Westport and Oake Knoll Ayrshires in Foxboro.
